The Summer Breeze Table Runner is a beginner-friendly crochet table runner pattern that combines a beautiful airy texture with a simple one-row repeat. Whether you’re looking for a quick crochet project to refresh your dining table or a handmade piece to decorate for summer gatherings, this easy crochet table runner is both fun to make and practical to use.
Made with cotton yarn and worked in a relaxing repeat, this crochet table runner pattern is perfect for beginners. The pattern is easy to customize to fit a variety of table sizes, making it a versatile project you can enjoy year after year.

One of my favourite things about the Summer Breeze Table Runner is the stitch pattern. While it may look intricate at first, it’s actually created using only double crochets and chains, making it a wonderful project for beginners looking to try something that looks a little more advanced.
The design features long columns of double crochet paired with airy shell-like sections that create beautiful movement and texture throughout the runner. The combination gives the fabric an elegant, open look that feels light and summery while still providing plenty of visual interest. It’s the perfect example of how a few simple stitches can come together to create something that looks far more complicated than it actually is.

The Summer Breeze Table Runner is a great pattern for crocheters of all skill levels, but it’s especially well-suited for beginners. With its simple one-row repeat and easy-to-master stitch pattern, it’s the perfect project for anyone looking to build confidence while creating something beautiful and practical.
If you enjoy relaxing crochet projects that don’t require constant counting or complicated techniques, you’ll love working on this runner. The Construction
The Summer Breeze Table Runner is worked flat in rows from one end to the other, making it an enjoyable and straightforward project. The pattern begins with a foundation chain and is then built using a simple one-row repeat that is repeated until the desired length is reached.
One of the best features of this design is how easy it is to customize. The width remains the same throughout the pattern, while the length can be adjusted by simply adding or removing rows to fit your table perfectly. The stitch pattern naturally creates an airy, elegant fabric with beautiful drape, giving the finished runner a polished look without requiring any complicated shaping or advanced techniques.
About the Yarn
For my table runner, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, which is a mercerized cotton yarn in worsted weight, that works beautifully for home decor projects. Mercerized cotton has a smooth finish, excellent stitch definition, and a subtle sheen that really helps textured stitch patterns stand out.
I highly recommend choosing a mercerized cotton yarn for this project (or any home decor project), as it provides the structure and durability that table runners need while still creating a lightweight and elegant fabric. The crisp stitch definition helps showcase the airy stitch pattern, and the finished runner holds its shape well, making it perfect for everyday use or special occasions. Plus, cotton is easy to care for and can withstand regular use, making it an ideal fibre choice for table decor.

Yarn
Worsted weight mercerized cotton, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in the colour Linen.
For the size of this table runner, I used 692g/1,176m (7 skeins) of yarn. Keep in mind, my table measures 92″ and my runner is 15″ longer than my table. You will need less yarn if your actual table is smaller.

How to Make a Stacked Single Crochet
AA stacked single crochet is used instead of a turning chain to start a row or round. It helps create a cleaner edge with less of a gap.
- Insert your hook into the first stitch and make a single crochet.
- Insert your hook into the left leg (the vertical bar) of that single crochet you just made.
- Now make another single crochet.
You now have a stacked single crochet that replaces your starting chains.
General Notes
- Once you get the hand of this repeat-sequence, you can make your table runner as long as you need it.
- If you would like to modify the width of this table runner, you will need a chain base multiple of 12+4..
Final size
This table runner was made for a standard 92″ table. The actual measurements of this runner: 107” long x 15″ wide
Pattern
Chain 64.
Foundation row: 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch across the row. (63 sts in total)
Row 1: stacked sc (counts as 1 dc), dc 3, [skip 2 sts, 5 dc in the next st, ch 2, skip the next 4 sts, dc 5], repeat across until you have 4 sts left, 4 dc. Turn.
Row 2: stacked sc (counts as 1 dc), dc 3, [skip the next ch-2 space, 5 dc in the first dc of the shell, ch 2, skip the next 4 dc of the shell and make 1 dc in the next 5 sts], repeat the sequence across until the last 4 sts, 4 dc. Turn.
Repeat row 2 until you reach your desired length!
If you have the same length table as the sample made for this pattern, you will continue crocheting until row 176.
Row 177 or last row: Work sc across the entire row, making sure to place a sc in each of the 5 stitches from the shell, as well as the ch-2 space. This will give a nice little finish to your table runner, and it also follows the same look as the beginning of the project.
Fasten off and weave in your ends!

Crochet Diagram & Legend
Note: As shown in the diagram, the rows begin with chains—this is only for visual clarity. In the actual runner, I start each row with a stacked single crochet. I used chains in the diagram to make it easier to follow. That said, you’re more than welcome to use chains at the beginning of each row if you prefer.
