The Antonia Headband is finally here! I’m so excited to share this super easy and quick pattern with you guys!
Some of you know that I went to Chile last February and all I did was go to the beach every single day BUT I did make something while I was there… It is this beautiful headband that I actually made in a few different colors for my little niece.
Of course, I had to share this pattern with you all so here it
Both headbands are made with different materials and yarn weights, this one is made with 100% superwash Merino from Knitcrate, and it’s a category 4, worsted weight yarn.
This material is perfect for fall/winter time!
This light pink one is made with 100% Cotton and it is a category 2. It’s super light and perfect for spring/summertime, although the ribbed brim gets very loose because Cotton it’s not a very stretchy material to work with. If you choose Cotton I would recommend making the ribbed brim a bit smaller than usual.
Let’s begin with the video tutorial
Materials
- 5 mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Measuring Tape
- Category 4 yarn (This is the one I used)
- Scissors
Stitches you should know
- Chain
- Slip Knot
- Slip Stitch
- Single Crochet
- Half Double Crochet
NOTE: The following pattern is for a 6-12-month-old baby. At the end of this page, you will find the chart with measurements for different sizes.
Pattern
For the ribbed brim
Begin with the foundation chain
Chain 6
Row 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook. Continue with single crochet all the way long (5 sc in total)
Row 2- 72: Chain 1, turn your work and now single crochet for the first 4 stitches (chain 1 does not count as single crochet) grabbing the back loop of the stitch only. For the last stitch of every row, we will grab the full stitch like we usually do.
My ribbed brim measures 1,5 inches for the width (3,5 cm)
Note: For the length of your headband (circumference) you have to crochet until reaching 2 inches less (5 cm) than the total. In this case, the baby’s head at 12 months old would have 18 inches of circumference so I stopped the brim once I reached 16 inches. This is because the stitch we just did is very stretchy and we don’t want the headband to be loose around the baby’s head.
Here is the measurements chart that you can use as a guide to making your brim
Once you have the number of rows that you need for the circumference we’ll proceed to close it joining the two ends
Pass the hook through the first stitch, grab the loop from the other end and pull it through.
Chain one and continue single crochet all the way down while closing the brim
Chain 30 and join the ends with a slip stitch
Row 1: Chain 1 and work half double crochet in each chain available (30).
Join this row with a slip stitch in the first HDC available.
Row 2-6: Work half double crochet all the way around grabbing the back loop only (30)
My bow measures 4,5 inches wide (11 cm)
After your rectangle is done, join the last row with a slip stitch and leave a long tail to form the bow, and attach it to the headband
To make the bow just fold the rectangle in half and start wrapping the string of yarn around, not too tight and not too loose.
Once the bow is done wrap the string of yarn around the headband, this way we will have the bow joined to the headband.
Before running out of yarn, wave in the end with your tapestry needle making sure it’s nice and secure.
Voila! Your Antonia Headband is done!
Very easy, fast, and beautiful!
