Hello hello!
Have you been feeling spring is in the air lately? There are days where I can feel it, and others where I feel like winter just doesn’t wanna go. That’s why I like to make a few things for my house that make me feel a little bit closer to spring, change things around that is always a good idea to start making your house ready for spring.
I like little crochet things here and there around the house. One of my favourite things to make with cotton yarn is coasters, mug rugs and washcloths.
Today, I will show you how to crochet a mug rug, this one is really easy to make, it is a great stash buster and also looks really nice.

I think we can all agree, coasters are great, but sometimes we have bigger cups, bottles, or other items that are just too big for coasters.
That’s why I like mug rugs, they are a bit bigger than your usual coaster, so we can place larger items on them.
Like I said before, they also look really cute around the house.
Pretty much all of my designs are boho-style, at least I think so! And this one is no exception. I love neutrals and warm colours, but that doesn’t mean a colourful one wouldn’t look amazing as well!
I always recommend using cotton yarn for coasters or mug rugs, we don’t want to put anything hot on acrylic or any other synthetic yarn.
If you like this type of project check out the Cottage Mug Rug pattern, I’m sure you would love it!

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, [[sc, dc] in the next ch, skip next ch]. Repeat the sequence in the brackets until two chs remain. Sc in the last ch. (16)
Note: To make a neat edge, we are not going to chain to turn, once you have made your last sc, just turn your work and continue with the next sc as follows:
Row 2: Sc in the 1st sts, [[sc, dc] in the next st, skip next st]. Repeat the sequence in the brackets until two sts remain. Sc in the last st. (16)
Repeat row 2 until completing 15 rows in total.

Make the fringes
Now cut little strands of yarn to make the fringes. Approximately 4″ to have room to trim them.
Now place them along both edges of your mug rug. I used 3 strands for each fringe.
You can add as many as you’d like and as close together as you’d like. I placed mine every 3rd stitch.
Note: You can make this mug rug wider or longer, it’s totally up to you. To make it wider, all you need to do is chain a multiple of 2+1. To make it longer just add a few more rows until the desired length.
And now you’re done! As simple as that, now you can make as many mug rugs as you want. I’m not gonna lie, I have them everywhere around my house. They are so handy to have and they look amazing!
