The Sienna Shawl is exactly what you need if you’re looking for a fun and colourful winter knitting project! Made using Re-make by Lion Brand Yarn, this vibrant shawl combines rich tones and texture, making it perfect for those chilly winter days. Re-make, known for being eco-friendly and soft, adds a sustainable touch to your wardrobe. It’s an easy-to-knit, oversized shawl that blends style and warmth, ideal for layering over your favourite cozy outfit.
This shawl was designed with confident beginners in mind, offering just enough challenge to keep it exciting, but not too complex to overwhelm. The pattern starts with the garter tab cast-on, which creates a smooth and seamless beginning that expands into a gorgeous triangle shape. From there, you’ll work through simple stitches, allowing you to focus on the rhythm of knitting while watching your colourful creation come to life. Plus, the garter stitch provides a squishy, textured fabric that adds both visual appeal and comfort.
One of the most exciting aspects of knitting shawls like the Sienna Shawl is how they allow you to play with colour combinations. With the Re-make yarn’s stunning palette of shades, you can create your own unique colour palette, making the shawl a true expression of your style. Whether you prefer subtle, earthy tones or bold, vibrant hues, this shawl gives you the perfect canvas to mix and match your favourite colours. Shawls are also incredibly versatile in your wardrobe – whether worn as a statement piece or as an extra layer of warmth, they’re a must-have for the season.
So, if you’re looking for an approachable yet rewarding knitting project this winter, the Sienna Shawl has it all. The pattern’s simplicity and the flexibility to customize colours make it a fantastic option for knitters looking to explore new techniques or create a cozy, handmade gift. Special Stitch
Knit Front Back: Start by inserting your right-hand needle into the next stitch on your left-hand needle as you normally would knit.
Knit through the front of the stitch, but do not slide it off the left needle yet. Keeping the original stitch on the left needle, insert your right needle into the back loop of the same stitch and knit through it.
Now, slide the stitch off the left needle, you have now created two stitches from one.
Pattern
Begin with the garter tab cast on:
Using the long-tail cast-on method and colour A, co 3 sts.
k garter stitch for 7 rows.
Once you have 7 rows, do not turn your work (Photo A). Rotate your tab 90 degrees clockwise, with your left needle pick up 3 stitches from left to right along the garter edge (Photo B), then k those 3 sts. You now have 6 sts on your right needle. Rotate your tab 90 degrees clockwise once more, with your left needle pick up 3 stitches from left to right along the cast-on edge (Photo C), then k those 3 sts. You now have 9 sts on your right needle (Photo D).
You have completed your garter tab cast on.
Set up row:
Row 1: k4, pm, k1, pm, k4 (9 sts in total)
Starting the shawl:
Row 2: k2, kfb, kfb, k, kfb, kfb, k2. (13 sts in total)
Row 3: k across the row (13 sts in total)
Row 4: k2, kfb, k until 1 st before the marker, kfb, k, kfb, k until 3 sts left, kfb, k2. (17 sts in total).
Row 5: k across the row. (17 sts in total)
Now continue alternating rows 4 and 5 until the shawl is completed.
Note: It’s important to use your row counter, as every even row will have the increases and every uneven row won’t have any.
Completing the shawl and the colour sequence:
Colour A: 20 rows
Colour B: 8 rows
Colour C: 20 rows
Colour B: 8 rows
Colour D: 20 rows
Colour B: 8 rows
Colour A: 20 rows
Colour B: 8 Rows
Colour C: 20 rows
Colour B: 8 rows
Once you have completed all 140 rows, loosely BO your stitches and weave in your ends.
