Hello hello everyone!
It’s Dani here, with another easy beginner-friendly pattern.
One of my obsessions, besides blankets, is home decor items, I love making pieces that I can display in my home and that I can show people when they come over.

These placemats and coasters are no exception, they are super cute and easy to make.
I made them thinking of special occasions, those placemats that are unique and we use for holidays or a special dinner.
One or three colours?
Or maybe more? Well, this pattern has 3 details that you can make in different colours (see pictures below). You can use one colour to keep harmony, or you can make them fun and mix colours.
I made these placemats in a very nice green colour, that goes with my home decor. But I’m dying to make them for Christmas and more fun and vibrant colours.
For the coasters, I made the body of the coaster in one colour, then the ruffles in a different colour, and finally the slip stitch detail in a different colour as well.
I think it’s so fun to mix colours and I know you will have a blast making them!
We are using mercerized cotton
I know the regular cotton is cheaper and they have fun colours, but it won’t look the same.
For things that are a bit more functional (besides tea towels and things we will use to dry and/or clean) using mercerized cotton will give your project a more luxurious feel and look to it.
Placemats and coasters can get dirty and wet, and that’s okay, you can throw them in the wash and they come out as good as new, they won’t get ruined at all.
What is the difference between Non-mercerized and mercerized cotton?
Mercerized cotton is a unique type of cotton yarn that boasts a higher sheen compared to traditional cotton. It’s also more durable, absorbs dye more easily, generates less lint, and has a better resistance to mildew. Additionally, it tends to shrink less and maintain its shape better than standard cotton.
Unmercerized cotton yarns have a more subdued appearance and a matte finish. They are superior in absorbing water, making them an excellent option for towels.
Perfectly round circle!
In this pattern, I will show you 2 different techniques: The first one is a way to avoid the gap that chains leave at the beginning of each round, and the second one is how to make a perfectly round circle.
Crochet circles can more often than not, look like hexagons, and that’s not what we want. I will show you how moving just a couple of stitches, can completely change the way your circle looks.
